DELL LATITUDE XT2 MULTI-TOUCH TABLET PC SHIPPING

Thursday, March 5, 2009

Hey people, they say nothing is better then getting an economy out of a recession then spending (not sure how true that is), but apparently Dell thinks so and with that has begun shipping its uber nice and uber pricey XT2 multi-touch tablet.

In case you forgot (we covered this last month), the system starts at $2,400 ($2,399 to be exact). Included in the price is an 80GB hard disk drive doing its thing at 5400rpm, 1.2GHz Intel Core Duo processor, Intel integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics, 4 cell battery and all your ports and what not.

The price goes up from there and can easily approach the $4,000 mark if equipped with a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 3GB of RAM (DDR3), 128GB SSD and WWAN, Bluetooth and 802.11n WiFi.

The item says to have free 3-5 day shipping and the preliminary date is April ninth.

Dell, my friends, dell is one of the all-time favorite brands I can think of when talking about laptops, and most impressive part of it all is how they managed to improve the customer support services in only a few years. Fortunately, I never had to use dell's customer support services, but I have some friends who did, and a few of them told me everything got much better in the last 2-3 years. These being said, let's take a look at today's dell candy - the Latitude XT2!

"The industry's first tablet PC with multi-touch screen technology has taken superb to a new level with the dell Latitude XT2. The XT2 lets you use natural gestures like a pinch or tap for scrolling, panning, rotating, zooming and more." Now, this black beauty has just been spotted on dell.com, but no matter how much you'll pay for it, you won't have it before the 9th of April.

Oh, yeah, by the way... how much should you pay for dell's tablet PC? Well, the 12.1-inch LED backlit, capacitive touchscreen-powered beauty starts at $2,399, giving you a 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo SU9300 processor, 1GB DDR3 memory, 80GB disk spinning at 5,400RPM, Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, and a 4-cell battery, but can go as high as $3,783, if you want to get serious. When I say "serious," I think about this - 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo SU9400 CPU, 3GB of memory, 128GB SSD, 802.11n WiFi, WWAN data card, Bluetooth, and optional XT2 Slice battery for up to 10 hours of untethered power.

I know, I know, it's even more expensive than a macbook Air, but think about how much you'd have to spend to turn a macbook into a ModBook, and you'll be able to figure out by yourself if the dell Latitude XT2 is worth its price or not.

Anyway, there's another month left until the "preliminary ship date" arrives, and my advice is the same as always - don't rush in! Wait for the first user reviews to arrive, and then decide!
