Liquid Spill On Laptop?

Monday, February 2, 2009

If you really care about your laptop, don't forget this golden rule - don't spill beer on it, after dropping some milk! Just think how would you feel after grabbing a beer as soon as you had a cup of milk - just don't try this, if you never made the mistake!!! I don't want to be held responsible for anyone's health but mine, so let's get down to business - what to do after a liquid spill on laptop has occured?

- First of all, say a prayer or drink a beer to your health - if you spilled some liquid on your laptop and escaped electrocution, the computer isn't on fire and it hasn't even exploded, it's good.

- Next, disconnect all power sources, and make it quick! Forget those downloads, forget the document you were working with, just disconnect all power(that means to take out the battery, no matter if you were using the AC adapter or not)!

- Take the laptop apart - or run quickly to somebody who can - and rinse the parts affected in tap water(this usually means the keypad, if you spill some liquid, it won't reach your hard drive or optical drive).

- As soon as it’s clean and shiny, rinse it again with distilled water, just to make sure that all the tap water in gone - you probably know that tap water contains minerals, chloride and calcium.

- Let it dry, assemble it again, pray/have a beer, and power it on again.

Finally, you probably know what to do - get a new laptop if the old one has just blew up, take it to a repair shop if it doesn't start or has other problems, or...have another beer to celebrate its return from the land of the living dead!
