Devon IT has been focusing on the development of thin client solutions and came up with a new laptop which will be presented at Citrix iForum Edinburgh during June 9 and 11. This model’s base design is identical to the Lenovo ThinkPad R61, just that it doesn’t integrate any hard drive.
Called SafeBook LVO, the mobile thin client laptop features an Intel Celeron 550 processor of 2GHz speeds, 1GB RAM memory, a 2.5 S-ATA Flash drive type of 2GB.
On the exterior it sports the ThinkLight keyboard, Integrated UltraNav dual pointing system with TrackPoint and customized touch pad, Ultrabay expansion support, and a 15.4-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.
SafeBook LVO is compatible with Lenovo ThinkPad docking stations and accessories, and runs on Windows XP operating system. It is available at a low price requiring low maintenance costs, while supporting Microsoft Windows Terminal Servers 2000/2003/2008, Citrix XenAPP, XenDesktop and XenServer; VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Unix/Linux servers, and Legacy Servers; 802.11a/b/g wireless connections, GSM Wireless, Citrix ICA and Microsoft RDP.
It displays virtual desktops and comes with Internet Explorer 7 web browser.
A thin client is preferred in healthcare, financial, education and other large industries because of it easily keeps up to date with the latest software and virus protection, is economical, easier to manage by IT administrators, cost effective, more secure because it doesn’t use hard drive but central server database, and supports upgrades remotely.
