SONY VAIO TZ295N REVIEW

The latest offering from Sony is like a feather, light and cool on your lap. The VAIO 295N is a great looker, like all the blessed ones of the TZ series. Lets put it through the testing machine, and find out if it has some brains too.


Design

In one word, Gorgeous. Designed absolutely flawlessly, it only weighs about 2.5lbs and measures only 2 inches in thickness. It has been designed using the carbon fiber which gives it ultra strength and high durability. Overall, the design is something to die for. Now about the screen, its a pleasure to work on it. Since they had the ultraportable scheme to do, the screen is like a sheet of paper in thickness. Still, it manages to put up a great show, with awesome color and screen quality. The maximum resolution that the 11.1” LED powered WXGA screen can take is 1366x768. The connectivity options have also been done really well, 2 USB , VGA, Firewire, SD/Memorystick slot, audio and MIC jacks. A piece of art on the whole.


Performance

Powered by the Intel Core-2-Duo U7700 running at 1.33 GHz, 2GB RAM and a 64GB Solid state drive, this notebook does make some good scores with the Ultra Low voltage processor from Intel. A 125 in 3DMark 06 and 1658 in PCMark 05, the notebook is more suited for day to day tasks rather than heavy-duty work. Gaming on this one is a no-no, so forget a quick frag session. The battery life is worth mentioning here because it gives excellent backup time. The overall backup came more than 7 hours, which is really an achievement. And why not, with the ultra low voltage processor, LED screen, solid state drive and a powerful battery, this should be the kind of score desired.

Well made, good specifications and a regular performance. Something to sum the VAIO TZ295N up.
