We're not so sure we think of this as great news, but it is netbook news nonetheless. If you are the Linux type and want a good solid alternative OS for your netbook then Ubantu has just released the latest version of their ever popular Linux distro.

Janty Jackalope (as Ubantu calls it) comes with faster boot time, better power management, immediate system access after hibernation, system-wide notification service and broader device support for switching between WiFi and 3G networks.

The current build is available for server, desktop and netbook builds.
