Fujitsu M2010

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

A cool laptop doesn't really have to be colorful, and I still think about kitsch vs coolness each time I see a new model that's anything but black, white, dark blue or gray. The Fujitsu M2010 is such a portable computer, and I must confess I like it, despite the colors used. Just take a look at the image below - kitsch or too cool?

According to the company behind it, "The Fujitsu M2010 defines what an all-in-one nifty mobile companion for work, school and play should look like and work like." While I agree somehow with the "work" and "school" parts, I have to think about the gaming part a little. Since when are netbooks gaming machines? Well, I could be wrong, but netbooks ARE NOT gaming machines, that's what I know.

Speaking about hardware, the Fujitsu M2010 packs the 1.6GHz Atom processor with the Intel 945 GSE chipset, 1GB of DDR2 memory running at 533MHz, 160GB hard drive, and a 10.1-inch WSVGA screen, all nicely fitted in the ~1kg little beast. Just for your information, the M2010's screen has a 16:9 ratio, a 1024X576 resolution and 200 nits brightness with 400:1 contrast ratio.

As Mr Lim Teck Sin, Director of Product Marketing for Fujitsu says, "The huge popularity of the Fujitsu M1010 has spurred Fujitsu to deliver an even more wholesome experience in our netbook category. The new Fujitsu M2010 is designed to give users higher productivity and efficiency at work with greater visual enhancement and connectivity experience at play. In all, the Fujitsu M2010 upholds the true mobility assurance that Fujitsu is so committed to deliver and users so desire to have." Eh, still those indecent references to gaming... but WHY?!?

While all the above doesn't really sound like a $650 netbook to me("$650 netbook" sounds kind of ridiculous, anyway), you should also take into account the fact that Fujitsu will sell the M2010 bundled with a wireless mouse and a DVD burner. Now, that's better, don't you think?
