THE SONY VAIO VGN-CS215JP/J QUICK REVIEW

Saturday, February 21, 2009

I have always had great respect for Sony VAIO laptops – from the very beginning, they have always been sleek, stylish, sophisticated-looking, compact, and ultra-portable. Then came the mini-notebook trend in 2008, and suddenly there was a flurry of the tiniest laptops ever to have graced the face of the digital age. Not only that, they were also incredibly affordable. The Sony VAIO series, as a family of fully functional laptops, needed to raise its game in order to compete not only against other notebooks and laptops, but also against the much cheaper netbooks. Their game plan, in my opinion, is simple: keep their laptops sleek, stylish, sophisticated-looking, compact, and ultra-portable, just as they have always been, but take it all a notch higher.

Enter the Sony VAIO VGN-CS215JP in ultra glossy pink, a modern-day princess’s digital dream come to life. Apart from its lovely pink finish, it is also tricked out with dynamic LED lights. What makes it even cooler is that it is environment-friendly, having been Energy Star 4.0-certified after having met standards that allow it to considerably reduce its impact to the environment. Stylish, sophisticated and energy-efficient – the Sony VAIO VGN-CS215JP definitely has a unique, zesty edge that will definitely appeal to technology-savvy females everywhere.

But don’t let its “soft” features fool you – like the modern day empowered woman, the Sony VAIO VGN-CS215JP has a ton of power stored beneath its feminine façade. Powered by a 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and sporting 250GB worth of hard disk space, it runs on Windows Vista Home Premium, is Wi-Fi capable and has Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity. Plus, it is considerably lightweight for a full-fledged notebook, weighing in at only 5.7 pounds, and it is thin and light, making it perfect to lug around for the girl on the go.

Although having been certified to be energy-efficient, the Sony VAIO VGN-CS215JP apparently has some issues with its short battery life, and applications that run with heavy graphics might reduce its performance given the Sony VAIO VGN-CS215JP’s use of shared memory. Nevertheless, for the price of around eight hundred US dollars, the Sony VAIO VGN-CS215JP is definitely a good buy. Sleek, sophisticated and undeniably stylish, and striking a balance between performance and portability, the Sony VAIO VGN-CS215JP definitely knows what a girl wants. And I’m sure it will attract a few guys who are man enough to sport a pink laptop, too!

Price – Aprrox. $800
