MSI GT627

MSI GT627...don't you agree that this would be a great name for a sports car? Just think about a 2-door convertible, wearing a glossy Tuxedo Black with red coves, a black interior with some discrete touches of red here and there, all completed by shiny hubcaps highlighting its whitewall tires. Maybe a hardtop would also fit in, but that's not something I really dream at night...

Hey, we're talking about computers here! Oh, yeah, computers... too bad. Well, here's the new MSI GT627 gaming notebook. Damn, another "gaming notebook," just to piss me off! Gaming means a LARGE screen, a POWERFUL video card, and lots of space. A decent RAID setup, if possible, and good airflow!

Now, let's see what you actually get with this GT beauty, shall we?

"With MSI exclusive Turbo Drive Engine Technology, while the GT627 is in AC mode, just by touching the turbo button above the keyboard, you can simultaneously increase the speed of your CPU, also the computer may run smoother and to the best of its abilities." Yeah, right - no matter how much I love MSI, I must confess overclocking a notebook still seems like a crazy idea, 90% marketing, and 10% real life use. Let's be honest!

Here's the (rather insane, for a laptop) technical specs list:

- 15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) display
- Intel Centrino 2 Technology; Core 2 Duo processor
- Nvidia GeForce 9800M-GS 1GB DDR3
- Up to 4GB DDR2-800 RAM
- Available Blu-ray drive
- Built-in 2.0 MP webcam
- HDMI, eSATA ports
- 6- or 9-cell battery
- Weight: ~2.7kg (6 lbs)
- Dimensions: 14.1" (W) x 10.2" (D) x 1.2" (H)

No word about pricing yet, but here's why shouldn't you care that much about pricing if you're really into buying a "gaming notebook:" the exterior of the MSI GT627 is aluminum, the touch sensor board above the keyboard, used to start any applications while operating, as well as the WASD keys on the keyboard, which are highlighted for gamers. A final outstanding feature is the separate numeric keypad, something you don't see too often with today's laptops.

Would I buy it? Hell, NO! Do I like it? I love it! What would I do if I would get one as a present? That's a good question, but I don't think I would give it away before playing with it for a few days, at least. In fact, I guess I could even throw away my "desktop sedan," for such a damn beautiful sports...ehem, "gaming notebook!"
