Laptop Keeps Turning Off?

One of the reasons that still keep me away from buying a laptop is that when the thing starts overheating because of the dust that made it in, or simply because you're keeping it in a tight place, you'll see that your laptop keeps turning off, and you need to get that work done... so you leave it off for a while, start it up again, just to see it go off or reboot after a while.
If you have a laptop and didn't have to go through such a thing, I envy you. Unfortunately, for me it was enough to troubleshoot some of my friends' ones to make me love my desktop computers even more. Anyway, if you see that your laptop keeps turning off, here's what you should do:
1. Check your power chord, socket, UPS, everything that leads from the electrical network to your AC power adaptor, but don't forget to check your BIOS settings and software setup, because it's probably your adapter who's sensing an overload of power drain.
2. In most cases, an overheating processor due to a build of internal dust is the cause for random reboots or turn offs.
3. AC power adaptor not able to sustain normal power needs (faulty power adaptor) - take care of the same items as those I mentioned at 1.
4. Especially with older laptops, the battery may overheat, simply due to internal battery fault, or charging levels.
5. If you have a new laptop, be sure to have all ventilation openings free, and when used on a desk, try not to allow full contact with the surface - use a book or two to keep the laptop above the desk and have some space beneath it.
I hope these hints will help you and you'll remember them not only when your laptop keeps turning off - your friends will surely be grateful if you manage to solve such a problem. Just don't forget to grab a few beers as a reward!
