Killer Notebooks, OMG!

Friday, February 13, 2009

When I hear about killer notebooks, I usually think about some insanely expensive and powerful laptop that could easily crush my (pretty decent for these days) desktop computer in any test you can think of, but there's something more to it. Unfortunately, laptops can kill, and this is not only theory, because today we're going to talk about such a fact...Sad, extremely sad. Just think about a whole family of six, killed by a lorry driver who was using his laptop on the motorway! David and Michelle Statham, of Llandudno, and their four children – Reece, 13, Jay, nine, Mason, 20 months, and Ellouise, ten weeks – died instantly in the crash on the M6 at Sandbach, Cheshire, last October, but the truth about the laptop was revealed yesterday.

"Paulo Jorge Nogueira da Silva, 46, a Portuguese driver, was not paying proper attention to the road when his 40-tonne large goods vehicle smashed into the family's people carrier, it was alleged at Chester Crown Court," says the report. Cops discovered that da Silva was using a laptop to find a route to follow because he missed taking the right direction at some earlier junction.

The trial is still going on, but one thing is certain - no matter what happens with Mr. da Silva, be sure NOT to use your laptop while driving. If you want to check the whole story, you can find it here.
