MSI Laptops
I have to be honest with you from the start, so here it is - I love MSI. One of the reasons for that is the mainboard I currently use, the MSI NEO-F V3, and the few older ones I had. Add a great MSI laptop one of my friends has, and you get the idea(obviously, I spent some time "playing" with that beauty of his). Now, what if I would tell you MSI has just come up with the first "stick-it-to-your-LCD" mini computer?
More or less official news about this has been around since last November, but now it's all on MSI website - "For clients' strong demand of ultra-low power platform with fanless design, MSI debuts the IM-945GSE based on the Intel® AtomTM processor N270 and the Mobile Intel® 945GSE Express chipset to provide the latest ultra-low power and slim form factor into solid embedded applications."
Ta-taaa! At first sight, this is nothing more than a Wireless router, but we're talking about a fanless computer for those who want decent Office and Internet performance without having to listen to any fans spinning around. Just in time, I was thinking about grabbing a low cost computer for my father, and this seems like a great solution, especially since I always hate cleaning up dust from my computers' cases!
Just hear this - "MSI enhanced I/O connectivity covers a Realtek 10/100 LAN, 3 USB 2.0 ports, a 3-in-1 card reader, and VGA interface. Different from other similar products in the market, MSI provides longevity support for 5-year lifespan to help you ensure long-term operation quality. Besides, MSI WindBOX eliminates the noise and the risk of fan's failure by wide heatsink as fanless solution."
Even more, you will surely be able to cut energy costs. After all, we're all looking to cut costs these days, right? According to MSI, "The Intel AtomM processor N270 in the WindBOX offers robust performance-per-watt. The N270 is based on Intel® 45nm process technology and generates 2.5W TDP power and 0.6W average power consumption." Sweet as hell, if I can put it that way!
If you're looking for a PC that weighs only 1 Kg and will beat the desktop computer you had around less than half a decade ago at any time, then the MSI WindBOX is surely one of the best choices around. In fact, this one could also replace your notebook, as long as you're going to a location where some display and peripherals are waiting for you...
Unfortunately, there's no word out about pricing yet, but I don't think it's going to go too much above $350. Anyway, that's only a guess... maybe it gets even below $350, since I am sure it can! After all, it's only a 1.6GHz Atom with 1GB of DDR2 memory inside a very attractive and inspired MSI package!
