From now on, your laptop can know who you are with a glance. The facial recognition technology reaches its first ever laptop with the aim of deepening the usability of the user through a system of access via Webcam. This recognition system has also experienced some significant progress in recent months: there is already a software capable of processing a sequence of images of a person in front position and movement, recognizing the expression of his face, and find out if it has been lifted with the left foot, or if you feel scared.
Investigators from the Department of Artificial Intelligence (DIA) of the Faculty of Computer Science at the Polytechnic University of Madrid in collaboration with the University Rey Juan Carlos Madrid, have developed an algorithm that can recognize facial expressions in real time (processing 30 images per second), giving the person observed one of six prototype expressions: anger, disgust, fear, happiness, sadness and surprise.
The fingerprint is a human characteristic and totally different for each individual person who is used as a means of identification. That makes it ideal for the activation of security systems.
Toshiba has just launched the Secured portable external hard drive, which incorporates a fingerprint reader for secure access to information. It also has a password access system based on a powerful AES-256 and incorporates a software engine that enables encryption of information by raising further the safety of it.
In addition, this device integrates different technologies for resistance to falls and spills of fluids. Secured to the protection of external actors is possible because it has been making it resistant to spills of liquid and falls. In addition, it incorporates a system for protecting the hard disk that detects falls and strong vibrations to park the reader head of the dishes impossible that these and the information could be damaged.
