Whether you are a standard laptop user or part of an organization, you surely need a high-level security solution for protection your stored data. Today, laptop users tend to ask for larger and larger hard drive capacities, in which to store large amounts of data, safely, and that’s why Seagate teamed up to McAfee in order to deliver a new solution involving hardware-based encryption.
Momentus FDE and Momentus FDE HD hard drives feature new technologies and reliable encryption algorithm, providing self-encryption notebook computer hard drives for all customers and organizations.
Individual users can go for the Momentus Full Disk Encryption hard drive that was designed to be easy to install, after which they can be setup by entering a BIOS password. The model features 5,400 rpm and 7,200 rpm speeds and prevent unauthorized access to the data in cases when the computer is lost or stolen.
Momentus FDE HD notebook computer hard drives are dedicated to those organizations that need powerful and more complex authentication on several levels.
The new notebook computer hard drives come with up to 500GB capacity and Dell is shipping the 160GB version of the self-encrypting notebook. McAfee is in charge with completing the software part of the Seagate Secure HDDs, via its ePO.
All the new hard drives from Seagate use the Advanced Encryption Standard government-grade security with centralized management, and are now shipping in 320GB and 160GB capacities, with the 500GB scheduled for the beginning of 2009.
"Delivering easy-to-use notebook security that also is cost-effective requires leading partnerships and technologies," said Tom Major, vice president of the Personal Compute Business Unit at Seagate. "Seagate is pleased to be teaming with industry leaders to simplify security management for our customers and providing our OEM and channel customers with the world's fastest self-encrypting hard drive."
