Dell has released BIOS updates for select notebooks to help reduce the likelihood of recently revealed Nvidia graphics card issues.

The affected Nvidia GPUs are experiencing higher than expected failure rates causing video problems such as no video, multiple images on the screen, and random characters or lines on the display.

Dell notes that if you are already experiencing these video-related issues, updating the BIOS will not correct them. Instead, the PC maker will provide support for customers who have experienced graphics card failure according to the terms of the system warranty.

According to a post at Direct2Dell blog, the BIOS updates modify the fan profile to help regulate GPU temperature fluctuations.

The updates are available for Dell’s Inspiron 1420, Latitude D630 and D630c, Precision M2300, Vostro 1310, 1400, 1510, and 1710, as well as for the XPS M1330 and M1530 laptops.
