Lenovo prepares the ThinkPad X200 12-inch ultraportable notebook series, based on the upcoming Intel Centrino 2 vPro “Montevina” mobile platform.
The Lenovo Thinkpad X200 will come in three versions: the X200, X200s and X200 Tablet. These are going to replace current X61, X61s, and X61 Tablet PC systems, respectively.
The line of the next-generation ThinkPad X Series feature Intel Core 2 Duo processors up to 2.4GHz, the new Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4700MHD, up to 5GB of DDR3 memory, up to 320GB of hard drive storage, as well as 64GB solid state drive and 2GB Intel Turbo memory options. The notebook’s 12.1? widescreen display uses CCFL backlighting, while select models will have LED backlight.
The X200 is the “Performance Model” and starts at 2.93lbs. It uses normal voltage processors. Lenovo estimates the X200 will provide 3.3-9.6 hours of battery life. On the other side, the X200s “Portability Model” with low voltage or ultra-low voltage CPU weighs from 2.47 pounds and runs estimated 4.5-13.3 hours on a single charge. The “Tablet Model” also uses Intel’s LV and ULV chips. It starts at 3.55lbs and should provide 3.3-11.1 hours of battery life.
Lenovo’s X200(s/Tablet) systems have three USB ports. Lenovo has added a built-in 1.3MP web camera into the upcoming ThinkPad ultraportables, while the newly designed keyboard is the same size as in larger T series. In addition, the UltraBase docking station for the new notebooks includes a DisplayPort digital video/audio connector.
Along with Wi-Fi LAN connectivity and Bluetooth, the X200, X200s, and X200 Tablet systems offer mobile broadband, GPS, WiMAX, and UWB support.
These Centrino 2 ultraportables also include a variety of advanced security and manageability features, such as TPM v1.2 chip and fingerprint options, BIOS disable of all ports, ThinkVantage Technologies, and Intel vPro.
A footnote in one of the leaked documents says the Lenovo ThinkPad X200s and X200 Tablet are coming in September 2008. There is no info on launch date of the X200 model, but we do not expect it before the launch of the Intel “Montevina” Centrino 2 platform in July.
The PC maker also prepares the new SL, T, R, and W ThinkPad series, according to the documents.
