Intel delayed the launch of its Centrino 2 mobile platform, codenamed “Montevina”, from June to mid-July. In addition, some parts of “Montevina” won’t be released until early August, CRN reports.
The chip maker plans to release the new Centrino 2 processors and “discrete graphics chipsets” on July 14, according to Bill Kircos, head of Intel’s consumer and enterprise communications group.
However, issues with the Intel 4 Series Express chipset, codenamed “Cantiga”, and “a paperwork setback on the basic Wi-Fi chip included in the newly branded Centrino 2 platform” means those portions of the fifth-generation Centrino won’t be released until early August.
Previously, Intel was expected to release “Montevina” at the 2008 Computex show in Taipei, June 3-7. Along with the new CPUs, chipsets, and wireless modules, the next-gen platform includes updated integrated graphics, support for faster front side bus and system memory, new version of the Intel Turbo Memory, and presumably the High Performance SSD.
