Dell is struggling to become the “greenest” technology company on the planet. For reaching its objective, the company will match consumer contributions to “Plant a Tree for Me”, a program that wants to fight against the carbon impact of the electricity used by computer systems. The contributions will vary from $2 from a laptop purchase to $6 from a desktop purchase, this being available for small and medium business customers also. These contributions’ matching will last for one week.
The money will go to The Conservation Fund and to Carbonfund.org. These NGOs will use these contributions in their reforestation projects, projects that address to fighting the habitat loss and climate change.
Last year, the program “Plant a Tree for Me” was a real success and according to CarbonFund.org through this project 150 million pound of CO2 will be removed from the atmosphere. This large quantity of CO2 is equivalent to the electricity used by 225.000 laptops.
Dell also advices its customers to use the Inspiron 531 Energy Star which is 46% more energy efficient than a standard PC.
Besides this contributions’ matching with the “Plant a Tree for Me” program and its energy efficient notebooks, Dell is offering free recycling programs for its customers and advices people that use its products to support these environmental initiatives to make the Earth a safer place for us.
