Toshiba 128GB SSD Flash Drive is faster than 7200RPM Hard Disk Drive

Friday, March 28, 2008

The new Toshiba Flash drives is capable of reading 100MB per second and wrting 40GB per second, which is faster than 5400RPM and 7200RPM hard disk drives.

Available in 64GB and 128GB capacities next month, Toshiba was able to gain these performances thanks to the SATA II interface.

Flash or SSD contains no moving parts and is said to offer faster performance and consume less power compared to conventional hard disk drives.

SSD is a new & emerging technology, thus the cost is substantially more than regular hard drives.

Toshiba on the other hand claims their newest SSD drives is both fast and affordable. "We believe that Toshiba MLC SSDs offer the right mix of cost and performance to satisfy today's demanding storage requirements for notebooks and ultra-mobile PCs," Scott Nelson, VP of memory for Toshiba division Toshiba America Electronic Components.

We'll have to wait and see Scotty.
