Dell Offers Sub-$1,000 Blu-ray Laptop

Finally, they're here. Laptops integrated with Blu-ray drive which won't cost you an arm and two legs to own one. Well, that's the plan with Dell's latest update to the Inspiron 1525 notebook lineup. Withthis most recent update, Dell now offers options for Blu-ray Combo drive (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM) & Blu-ray/DVD/CD Burner on the 15.4-inch Inspiron 1525 laptops.

The Inspiron 1525 laptop in an update to the 1520 model but doesn't feature an option for discrete graphics. But it still packs in an HDMI port for easy connectivity to large screen HDTV sets. It's interesting to note that Dell Inspiron 1525 laptops with Blu-ray disc drives incorporate special Broadcom Media PC technology that allows PCs with integrated graphics to play high definition video. The high-definition video playback is enabled through a built-in dedicated accelerator located in a mini-card slot.This slim and relatively lightweight Inspiron 1525 offers several funky lid designs to choose from.

One can configure an Inspiron 1525 from Dell with Blu-ray Combo drive for as low as $879. The Blu-ray Burner drive is an additional $200 upgrade. If you are a sucker for accessories, you can even opt from the several Dell has on offer (of course, paid ones). Some of them are: A slim travel power adapter ($80), Dell travel remote control (IR) that slips into the ExpressCard slot ($22), and Creative noise-isolation earphones ($25 value).

Inspiron 1525 range of laptops start at $499 and Blu-ray option is available immediately for customers in the U.S., Europe and Canada.
